The Institute of Green Growth Solutions (IGGS) is looking for a qualified and highly
experienced individual to fill the position of a Senior Climate Change and Environment Officer
position.
Job Brief – Senior Climate Change and Environment Officer
The Senior Climate Change and Environment Officer will lead a number of climate change and
environment projects in Ghana and internationally.
He/she is responsible for identifying environmental issues, recommending solutions, and
ensuring compliance with government, and local regulations with respect to Environment and
Climate Change.
He/She shall perform, oversee, and support the performance of the following specific tasks:
- Coordinate all environmental aspects relating to environmental monitoring, to ensure all related environmental policies, procedures and standards, Ghanaian laws and regulations are complied with at all times.
- Implements and maintains the Environmental Management System (EMS) for the effective deployment of environmental programs.
- Develops and executes programs to ensure regulatory compliance obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner, and that environmental risks are successfully managed.
- Conduct site assessment and ensure integration of climate change and gender into programs
- Assist in the site visits of regulators as well as third party auditors.
- Lead project team in baseline monitoring and related studies tied to data collection.
- Address and coordinate emerging environmental issues through engaging in stakeholder meetings and other forums.
- Lead in work planning development, activities, communications, and progress reporting on environmental and social impact aspects of the activities of the organization
- Support environmental and social impact screening and provide environmental and social soundness recommendations for projects
Qualifications
- Possess master’s degree in environmental science, natural resource management, environmental engineering, climate change, sustainability, energy, or any other relevant fields and must be a member of a professional body.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in climate change, undertaking Environmental and Social
- Impact Assessment (ESIA) assignments including Environmental Audit.
- Familiarity with environmental policies and demonstrate technical understanding and ability to interpret environmental assessment documents.
- Analyze and prepare report sections on the baseline conditions of the ESIA which includes qualitative and quantitative evaluation whenever applicable.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to write, communicate, and prepare engagement materials clearly in English
